And now I'm on the bus and good g I think Anastasia is the reason I've been saying, "Good grief," so much lately. And now I'm on the bus and good grief, is this the right bus? As soon as I finished reading it, I was seized by the sudden, inexplicable urge to re-read Anastasia's Chosen Career.
I'm not really sure why this book has stuck with me through the years. It's really not any more special than the Babysitters' Clubs and Nancy Drews that I was reading around the same time Not to knock either of those series. I love them. But, every now and then, some part of this story will pop into my head, like "Stick it in your ear, turkey," "flagrant," or the scene in which Henry gets her hair cut and transforms into a beautiful, breathtaking model.
Who knows why certain books stay with us? Mar 12, Julie Decker rated it really liked it. Anastasia was always a sort of nerdy, intellectual girl, so it surprises everyone--even, sort of, herself--when she's assigned to cover "My Chosen Career" and decides maybe she just might want to be a model. She takes a modeling course and learns about poise and dressing properly and becoming presentable, but this really isn't a career path that comes naturally to her much to her dismay.
Another girl in the class--an unassuming teenage girl who doesn't know how beautiful she is, really--is the Anastasia was always a sort of nerdy, intellectual girl, so it surprises everyone--even, sort of, herself--when she's assigned to cover "My Chosen Career" and decides maybe she just might want to be a model. Another girl in the class--an unassuming teenage girl who doesn't know how beautiful she is, really--is the clear star of the show, and Anastasia befriends her.
Also joining the modeling class is Anastasia's good old "friend" Robert, which I thought was pretty hilarious. Watching her get her hair cut and "hoping for exquisite ears" was so much fun. I love the thoughts that go through Anastasia's head, and how she is prone to little flights of fancy in her imagination. Her everyday life may be commonplace, but it's more than enough to carry a book.

Anastasia learns quit a bit about life and acceptance of others while discovering that she possesses plenty of self-confidence already. Anastasia decides to take a modeling class to help her with her school project "My Chosen Career" That sounds like the most excellent career in the world. However, this is also the least realistic of the Anastasia books so far.
I find it unrealistic that the Krupniks would let their 13 year old daughter attend a modeling class in downtown Boston by herself.

I would like to share this book with a friend. I liked it when Henry acted like a panther, usually she panthered across the room so magnificently.
I didn't like it when Anastasia chose to be a book owner when she grows up for her chosen career. I think that Anastasia should be a pretty, and gorgeous model when she grows up and it should be her chosen career. Becoming a book store owner is a dumb and boring job.
May 11, Robert rated it really liked it. My daughter was reading through this series and I picked this one up to read. I found it surprisingly amusing, particularly for the wry and intelligent details about the characters, which is refreshing in a children's book. I just wish the updated cover of the current editions did not have such a poorly chosen "Anastasia" photo. Jan 26, HeavyReader rated it liked it Shelves: kids-chapter-books. My favorite part in this installment in the life of Anastasia Krupnik is where her new friend tells her that neither of them have to get married when they grow up.
That's pretty cool and not the first time that Anastasia is told she never has to get married if she doesn't want to. The first person to tell her this is her mom. Double wow!
Anastasia's Chosen Career
I really like Lowry as an author. But maybe I'm just too old for her Anastasia books? I can't really relate to this girl, and she's kind of all over the place. And it's not vintage enough to have a different viewpoint. Maybe it was just this book particularly, but we don't really get to view much of her personality.
